Lilly, a young college student, returns to the only home she has ever known, an impoverished western Massachusetts town. Where We’re Born is a tragedy in its original sense: characters are doomed to live out their fate. The play’s final moments are as powerful and moving as any play we will ever produce.

Lucy Thurber has been a past recipient of the Manhattan Theatre Club playwriting fellowship. Her play Killers and Other Family was produced at Rattlestick Theater in 2001. She is also the author of Ashville, Innocence is a Sin, The Kool Aid Smile, Stay and Wendy and Laura. Her ten-minute play, Dinner, is published in a collection called, Not So Sweet, 16 plays from SOHO Rep’s 10-minute play festival. She is a member of The MCC Playwrights’ Coalition.

Most recently, Will Frears directed the Off-Broadway premiere of Omnium Gatherum at the Variety Arts Theatre, where it garnered rave reviews. In New York, he has directed for the New York Fringe Festival, HB Playwrights Series, and the Atlantic Studio amongst others. Regionally his work has been seen at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and Actors Theatre of Louisville. Next up: Stephen Adly Guirgis’ Our Lady of 121st Street at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago.

Now playing: a “gripping drama” by Stephen Belber:
Geometry of Fire
