The Long Lives of Rattlestick Plays

We have launched the careers of many writers who are now household names, including Annie Baker (The Aliens), Sheila Callaghan (Everything YouTouch), Michael John Garces (Acts of Mercy), Samuel D. Hunter (The Few), Martyna Majok (Ironbound), Diana Oh (mylingerieplay), Adam Rapp (Hallway Trilogy) and Lucy Thurber (The Hilltown Plays).

Below is a list of some of the Rattlestick works that have gone onto a future life.  This list represents works and artists that we have been substantially developed and/or produced at Rattlestick over the past few years.

  • Christina Anderson’s HOW TO CATCH CREATION (developed in the F*ck!ng Good Plays Festival in Fall ’16) will be produced at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Philadelphia Theater Company, Baltimore Center Stage, and The Goodman Theater.

  • Ngozi Anyanwu’s HOMECOMING QUEEN (Developed through the Actors-Who-Write Lab) was produced at The Atlantic Theater Company.

  • Sheila Callaghan’s EVERYTHING YOU TOUCH (April ’15 Rattlestick Production) was subsequently produced at Contemporary American Theatre Festival

  • Heather Christian (New Songs Now) subsequently produced ANIMAL WISDOM at Bushwick Starr.

  • Mike Daisey’s STORY OF A GUN (October ’16 Rattlestick Workshop Production) was subsequently produced at Playmakers Rep and will be produced at Woolly Mammoth Theater in 2018-2019

  • Laura Eason’s UNDENIABLE SOUND OF RIGHT NOW (April ’15 Rattlestick Production) was subsequently produced at the Keegan Theatre.

  • William Hoffman’s CAL IN CAMO (June ’16 Rattlestick Production) was subsequently produced at Denizen Theatre, Red Dog Squandron, and Rivendell Theatre Ensemble.

  • Samuel D. Hunter’s THE FEW (Rattlestick Production in May ’14) was subsequently produced at Steep Theater Company and Milwaukee Chamber Theater.

  • Tom Jacobson’s TWENTIETH-CENTURY WAY (June ’15 Rattlestick Production) was subsequently produced at Long Beach Playhouse.

  • Martyna Majok’s IRONBOUND (April ’16 Rattlestick Production) was subsequently produced at City Theater, Geffen Playhouse, B Street Theater, Q44 Theater and Kings Cross Theater (Australia), and will be produced at the National Theatre of Warsaw in 2019.  This production launched Majok who subsequently wrote COST OF LIVING which was produced at MTC (winner of the Pulitzer) and QUEENS (LCT3).

  • Catya McMullen’s AGNES (Workshop Production through Rattlestick’s Middle Voice Apprentice Company in Fall ’16) was subsequently produced by Lesser America.

  • Dael Orlandersmith’s UNTIL THE FLOOD (January ’18 Rattlestick Production) was subsequently produced at The Goodman Theater, Milwaukee Rep, ACT (Seattle)

  • Lisa Ramirez’s TO THE BONE (developed at Rattlestick in ’15) was subsequently production through the Cherry Lane Mentor Project and Ubuntu Theater Ren Santiago’s SIBLING PLAY (developed at Rattlestick in Spring ’15) was subsequently produced through the Cherry Lane Mentor Project, Ojai Playwrights Conference, with readings at MCC and Labrynth).

  • Ken Urban’s THE CORRESPONDENT (Rattlestick Production in Jan ’14) was subsequently produced at The Huntington Theater.

  • Martin Moran's THEO (developed in Actors-Who-Write Lab) will be produced by Two River Theater

  • Miranda Rose Hall's PLOT POINTS IN OUR SEXUAL DEVELOPMENT (developed at Rattlestick in Spring '18) will be produced by LCT3 this Fall.
